4 Chia Seed Recipes & A Blendtec

How are you doing today?  I am tickled pink, to use my grandmother's expression, that you like the Vegan "Thin Mint" Fudge action going down in yesterday's post.   It was comment mania on that recipe and I just wanna thank new and old readers alike for not only visiting my blog, but for those of you who take the extra minute to leave a comment....  Muah!!!!
I hope you make the Thin Mint Fudge cuz it's easy, delish, uber-rich, and the ingredients are readily available.

And then the little Raw Vegan Chocolate Chocolate-Chip Cookies from my second post du jour are winners, too.  You can always make those if you need to get your chocolate on.

But moving right along...One ingredient that's sorta new to many people in the blogosphere is Chia Seeds.  If you need a place to purchase your seeds from, you can try Chia Seeds on This Page where they sell Chia Seeds.

I am frequently asked, well what should I do with my chia seeds?

Here's how I put some of my lil seeds to use.  But in case you forgot about this Raw Vegan Choco-Coconut-Chia action, here's a refresher for this little sugar bomb dessert.  Another good way to get your chocolate on.  Yum.
But moving onto a little healthier Chia Seed Usage...

Overnight PB & Banana Vanilla Chia Oats
1/3 c dry oats
2/3 c lowfat vanilla almond milk
1 Tsp Chia Seeds
1 Tsp PB2
Vanilla Stevia
1/2 banana diced in the overnight mixture and the other 1/2 diced fresh in the a.m.
Stir & Enjoy!

Vanilla Chia Seed Pudding
2 Tbsp Chia Seeds
Scant 1/2 c lowfat vanilla almond milk
2 Tbsp Agave
Liquid Vanilla Stevia
Stir ingredients together & Keep on Countertop for 20 mins.
Stir Again and pop into fridge to save for later if you like.  I have no problem saving extra chia pudding for a few days in the fridge or freezing it to be like chia ice cream.  Whatever floats your cha-cha-chia boat, peeps!
PB, Banana, & Chocolate Chia Oats
1/2 c dry oats
1 Tsp PB2
1 Tsp Chia Seeds
2/3 c lowfat vanilla almond milk
1/2 diced banana in the mixture

Chocolate Stevia
Cinnamon

Cook and garnish with the other half of the nanna sliced on top

Does anyone care that I ate some greens & veggies?  Probably not.  But here was one greenery fest.
And here was another.
But let's get past the rabbit food and move right along to my new appliance....A Blendtec!!!!  You know how much I love my Vita-Mix, but I thought it was high time to see what this Blendtec can do for my world.  For my regular readers, you know I've got the Vita put to use nearly daily, so I am going to start playing around with this new toy and see how it's gonna fit into my flow.  I have to say, I love the openness of the canister base.  Much wider and easier to dig stuff out of than the Vita.  Here's some pics I took.
This is way diff than the Vita's control panel.  The Blendtec's is much more high tech with unique buttons rather than just 2 dials.
And it counts down.  Like 20, 19, 18, 17....
...Your Milkshake Green Monster Smoothie is ready (or will be in 11 seconds) and then it shuts itself off.  Very cool.
I know a few people who have both the Vita & the Blendtec.  And I know a couple of you are probably reading this.  So tell me, for the Blendtec'ers out there, what do you love about it?  Which jobs do you think are better suited for it?  I love anecdotal, real-life-in-the-kitch stories, so please, regale me.

EDITED TO ADD:

You are SO LUCKY to get a Blendtec! I'm still trying to convince my mom to buy me one!

Averie, Your recipes look yummy. I have a huge container of chia seeds in my pantry that I have neglected for several months. Need to put them to use!

Thanks for the Chia recipes! I have 1/2 a kilo of the stuff sitting in my pantry, just begging to be used. Lucky you! A Blendtec! I would get one, but the cost a lot in Australia - around $1000. $$$

Off to go make that Banana and PB pudding!

Thanks for the primer on using chia seeds. I STILL haven't had them. Maybe after vacay. I'm interested in seeing how you like the Blendtec compared to the Vita Mix. Would love to get my hands on either one. My mixer is leaking green stuff everywhere!

VeggieGirl mentioned to me on my blog recently that she liked her BlendTech - I'd never heard of it until then. You'll have to share your comparisons between that and the vita mix!

Looks like you're at it again with the delicious recipes...seriously Averie - RAW COOKBOOK! :)

I wanted to stop by also to say thank you for being such an incredible friend....

Your recipes look so amazing! I've been putting my chia seeds in my breakfast cookies and oatmeal for a while, but I've never made chia pudding...I'll have to try it soon! And I can't wait to try your raw vegan chocolate chocolate chip cookies - hopefully this weekend! My mouth is already watering!

I LOVE my Blendtec!! Much better results than I had with the Vitamix or Magic Bullet.

Abby said...

Delightful as usual, Averie! That blender looks intense.. I like it!!The chia seed info was very informative. I also, never really know what to do with them besides throw on top of smoothies or oatmeal. Thanks!! :)

Wow you are uber lucky!!!! Can't wait to see you put it to use :)

You know I was just thinking the other day that we don't get to see what you eat most days - I want to know how you make so many dessert recipes and stay so skinny! ;)

I think today is chia pudding day - it's been on my list of things to make for a while now. It seems easy enough, I think the time is now.

shannonmarie said...

I thought for sure you'd be on a Halloween kick this a.m. as that was a theme in my post. Oh well, now we are opposites. You're getting a Blendtec and I'm mourning my broken Magic Bullet. I love my Blendtec, but the bullet was perfect for smaller tasks.

RunToTheFinish said...

Have I mentioned I like it when you post easy recipes because I stink at the harder stuff? yummm on the chia pudding.

oh gave you a little shout out today too

Your desserts look amazing! Anything with chocolate and peanut butter and I'm in : )

Also question about Yoga...how long did it take you in your practice to be able to do the head stand? I've been doing Yoga for about a year now but I can't seem to get that down!

Cindy said...

is the Blendtec as pricey as a Vita God?? I am smoking my poor cuisinart pretty often

and I made your chocolate cookies...sorta....go see!
OKAY....SLOW down...I am off to go get groceries today

(HOME TODAY!!! WOO HOO)

OATS, BANANAS, I need to make a list!

Hi Ladies, thanks everyone for stopping by!

Special shoutout and welcome back to Justine, thanks hon for your comments the past few days :)

And glad I have inspired you all to try some more chia action. They are sort of foolprood and add good fat and protein so even if they don't "work" like you think they will, it's a no harm-no foul kinda thing IMO.

Shout out to the new commenters, hi girls!

And VG-I recall you saying that before somewhere, very good to know. I still need to "learn it". It's like a new car that I need to learn how to drive LOL

Amanda thanks for the shoutout!!!! And I am glad you like the easier recipes, I think lots of people do. Heck, some days I do. And chia pudding is all I can muster :)

Off to get my hair done...OMG I need it. It's been nearly 4 mos. Yikes! New salon worries though...I had my old guy for 5 years....

Boo-Hoo!! I don't have a Vita OR a Blendtec:( I SO DESPERATELY WANT ONE!!

I always get so happy when I read your blog! You are so uplifting! I'm sad to report I have not a blendtech or a Vita. Booo hoo.... I have a measly blender. Ha! It's all good though! I'll check out your reviews!!!! :D Love the chia ideas. I have yet to get any! I need to add them to my list!

Hi Averie!

I made cheesecake last night :D But I think I didn't quite get it right because the coconut oil taste was a bit overpowering. I've written about it on my blog but if you have any insight I'd be delighted to hear it!

I'll definitely be making the overnight oats. I just made a big batch of overnight muesli (natural bran, oats, flaxmeal, coconut, sultanas, apple, pear, vanilla sun warrior, and almond milk) to last me the next couple of mornings - it usually does 4. But this is my second batch so I'll defo need to try something different next time.

Thanks so much for posting this!!!

Chia seeds are on the top of my list for trying.

As a health food enthusiast, I am quite the embarrassed bloggie to have never tried them. :(

But when I do- I'm coming straight back here for these recipes. Anything to get my oats on... yumm.

TheFitnessFreak said...

You'll have to let me know what the final verdict is on the BlendTec vs. Vitamix. I love my Vitamix but they have had the BlendTec at Costco quite a few times this year and I'm always tempted!

healthhappinesshope said...

These Chia Seed recipe sound fabulous! I'm really liking the sound of the overnight oats... definitely a must-try!

I can't wait to hear your review of the Blendtec. I don't have either one (Blendtec or Vita), but both have received raves on the blogs. What a fun appliance to play around with!

HEADSTAND!!!! Haha, love this pose. The first time I got it, I seriously screamed out to my mom to hurry and take a picture. Such a challenging pose, but a true test if you are "in focus" during your yoga.

Your overnight chia oats look amazing, and I'm so excited you got a Blendtec. I hear they're better than the Vita. No tamping required. Please keep us posted on your thoughts.

Wow! I use SweetLeaf Sweetener (stevia) too! Have you tried any flavors on plain yogurt?

Deb (Smoothie Girl Eats Too) said...

ha ha I thought the first photo was a burger!! Wrong blog!

Vmix vs Blendtec- very curious to hear your views. I love the fact that the vmix has a tamper!?!

Oh and Janetha's idea about a Samoa is crackin!

You are a recipe queen over here! Congratulations on the blendtec. I've heard they're even better than vitamixes!

Pure2Raw Twins said...

I sure love my Vita-mix, but would love to hear your thoughts on Blendtec!!! You are making me crave chocolate...yum : )

lilveggiepatch said...

I love your new toy! I love even more that it has a special "milkshake" function. It might be even better than the "popcorn" button on the microwave!

I always care that you eat your veggies. We love veggies so much that we both have them in our domain names! Some might think that makes us a little freaky, but I think we're just grand.

Anne said...

I love your chia oats and pudding. The veggies look super colorful and yummy, too :D The blendtec looks way awesome and high tech!

Your yoga poses are so hardcore! Love the pic :)

Shannon said...

i don't have either mixer... in fact, i don't have any! i do have a hand blender, which is good for most things. someday ;)

Those chocolate chip cookies look out of this world.

Thanks again for all the recipes - I would definitely try chia with almond butter and banana, one of my FAVORITE combinations. and oatmeal is a major comfort food. I've recently moved away from peanut butter in part because of this article by one of my favorite bloggers Megan Telpner:

Kelly Michelle said...

oh man, I wanna make these chia recipes so bad, especially the PB, Banana, & Chocolate Chia Oats!

The overnight PB and banana oats looks so good! Very similar to what I've been doing with my chia. EVERYTHING needs to have banana and pb in it!

Krunsdogs said...

I love your chia recipes. I have used chia in puddings and dresssings, but I must try your chocolate chip cookies and mint fudge. Also, the chocolate coconut pudding and PB, Banana and Vanilla Oats looks good too. What I'm saying is they all look great and I will have to try them all!

Would love to try the chia pudding to see what the rage is!

I was just Googling "Blendtec" and "Vegan" and came across this blog. Some great recipes! Thanks!

FWIW: I'm not sure how many Costcos are doing this, but through this Sunday (May 2, 2010) my local store has Blendtecs for $379.99 with a 7-year full-replacement warranty and 3 years on the canister. The rep made a delicious pineapple/spinach/agave sorbet that you had to taste to believe.

Ms.Erika said...

Yes, I have tried stevia. I've been a loyal stevia fan for years and years. You can imagine the looks I got as an undergrad in college, pulling out my little stopper bottle in the middle of class and dropping some in my tea....

Ms.Erika said...

I love Love LOVE chia seeds. Chia pudding is my absolute favorite. I'm not sure if I've ever actually used them for anything else.... somehow it just seems like a waste to me. A basic chia gel got me through a two-week long illness too. NOTHING sounded good and I couldn't get anything in. Literally about all I ate for two weeks was chia gel. It's my go-to food when sick and my go-to food when busy. :-)

Ive tried stevia! I absolutely love it. Some brands have a funky after taste tho. But i still much prefer stevia over anything!

Kat said...

I have not tried Stevia but want to!

Anonymous said...

Ive never tried chia seeds before. Their one of those things ive wanted to play around with, but their a little intimidating.

Kat said...

I LOVE chia and use it daily. We use it as a topping on raw vegan goodies and in smoothies mostly.

I never used stevia! Only splenda, haha.

I won a package of Chia Goodness, but have yet to try them! (There's a lot of humidity in our house for now -_-, I don't want them to get bad)
Your recipes makes me want to open the bags though :p

Kady @ Livin, Lovin, Learnin said...

Those chia seed recipes all look so good! I haven't made chia seed pudding before, I definitely need to get on that! I've tried stevia before and often use it in place of sugar where I would use small amounts of it. I have not tried it in bigger recipes.

ManoloMandi said...

I use stevia fairly often. Here's a post where I used it in my coffee

Food Makes Fun Fuel said...

I've made chia pudding before and couldn't eat it. It's just too much for me

Cara said...

I love using stevia to sweeten my goodies! I've even begun to use it dressings, sauces, etc - anything I would have avoided in the past that called for too much sugar!
