What else have I been up to? I whipped up a quick-n-chocolatey raw vegan dessert that requires nothing but a bowl, spoon, and the freezer. Music to your tastebuds, I know.
Averie's Raw Vegan Chocolate Coconut Snow Balls
1.5 cups shredded coconut
3/4 c maple syrup (or agave to be technically raw)
3/4 c cocoa powder
Dash Vanilla Extract
Optional: 1/4 c coconut oil (I used it and encourage it!)
Optional: 1/4 c chia seeds (did not use it in today's blend)
Mix all the ingredients together by hand
Vegan Chocolate Heaven in the house
Transfer to a container for the freezer.
If you want to make Snow Balls by hand, hence the name of the recipe, feel free to make golf-ball sized choco-balls and then freeze. You'll probably yield 15 balls or so.
I was not feeling super inspired to roll the mix into balls. Instead, I just scooped things outta the container with an ice cream scooper as needed when I raided the freezer.
...And here's where I have that ice cream scooper ready for the frozen Choco Coconut Snowball dig-out fest.
I dug out a ball. (So much TWSS potential there....)
A Big Chunk Went Missing from the Container
Thick, rich, fudgey, sweet. Fast-n-easy, no specialty appliances required, either. Pretty much everything you'd want in a dessert. And let's not forgot those health benefits of coconut and coconut oil. Everything from an immune system boost to increased healing. So you can keep on convincing yourself why it's good for you to eat this little dessert. I'm just what the Doctor Ordered.
Enjoy!
After I raided the freezer, I raided my pantry and was looking through my nut butter stash...
...I made a bowl of oats for Scott, threw in some cinny & brown sugar, raisins, and topped them with a Sunbutter and Barney Butter Combo courtesy of a Barney Butter Sample I got. For all inquiring minds, Barney Butter is Peanut-Free. It's Almond Butter and mighty yummy!
I also got some You Bars to Sample. For anyone who hasn't heard of these, they are suuuuper cool! Why are they cool? Because you get to build your own bar! So you get to customize your own bar, shake or trail mix based on whatever ingredients float your boat! What a great idea, why didn't I think of that?
I like the Nutrional Stats but love that Dates are the first ingredient on this pre-made chocolate bar
As a special treat for you, You Bar is hooking my readers up with a 5% discount off your order!!! Simply enter the code "LoveVeggiesAndYoga" at checkout and you're all set to save! Thanks, You Bar!
Tip of the Day: Remember the Me & Gogi I reviewed yesterday, well Wednesday, October 21st they are going to be on the Today Show at about 9am Eastern time and they are offering free shipping on all orders over $15 on Wednesday only. I know some of you wrote to tell me you were gonna wait to order, well you may wanna get on that for the free $hipping action.
Things today were brought to you in VeganMofo spirit.
Yoga today is Warrior III (Virabhadrasana III). I love this pose because it really works your balance. Best thing to do is pick a focal point or dristi and once you feel steady, start to slowly extend your arms and your leg. Don't be lookin' around. Keep your gaze steady as it will steady your balance.

Does anyone have a favorite Tea they want to tell me about? I have been trying to get more into teas lately and although they just don't fully cut it for me because I am just a coffee drinker at heart, there are so many great seasonal and holiday blends coming out this time of year, what are your faves?
Stay Tuned for another Chocolate Dessert recipe... I don't ever want to hear you're sick of chocolate desserts!
Til then, enjoy a Snowball!...

Averie, I can't even keep up with all your amazing creations! I was just going to comment on your hummus, which I plan to make soon, and when I popped over from my reader to your blog, I was greeted with the magic coco snow balls! Gahhh!!! These are a perfect holiday "cookie"!! My list of "things that Averie creates that look fan-freaking-tastic that I need to try" is growing exponentially!
Really, I have a list a foot long of things of yours that I have to make, and now I've just added one more. You really are AMAZING! The texture on these snow balls looks just delicious, can't wait to try them.
And yay, warrior pose is my favorite! It really does make me feel like a strong, fearless warrior, and I love it!
Averie! How funny! I posted nearly the identical recipe tonight as you did! Seriously! Check it out...mine is a bit different (I used more coconut, plus some optional add-ins...) but my pics of the scrumptious finished product look just like yours. Chocolatey coconutty goodness, yum yum yum. My kids scarfed these down today.
Great vegan mama minds think alike :)
Your food looks delicious as usual, and your yoga poses are AMAZING.
Thanks for sharing your yummy recipes!
Chocolatey hugs,
Sheri xo
Hello! Loving catching up on your blog again :) I've missed your yoga inspiration.
I have only just started tea drinking. I didn't think it was really my thing, but I just re-quit coffee and I still wanted something warm on these autumnal London mornings. So far I have enjoyed the yogi cinnamon tea - which doesn't actually have tea in - and also the celestial apple cinnamon one. It's pretty sweet but it's pure comfort.
Have a good day :) Emily.
Good Morning from the eastern sea board. So this morning I was feeling a little stressed (which is not a good way to start the day)PMS is on the way and I have been craving sweets like crazy and wasn't sure how I was going to handle it and have to go to the gorcery store. And I don't know about you but candy bars, m&m's yikes. but anyway I get up start my morning with tea and averie and she has saved my day! Coco snow balls! I am like I have all of this in the house!!!! This can't long. So right now in the freezer is my snow ball ceration. For those of you that can't do coco - I did carab powder and I can't handle alot of sugar. I half the agave and used little coconut milk to cream them up. can't wait till snack time.
As for tea. I love tea. Cheap, expensive I'll drink and now with coconut creamer (that I make my self since Wilmywood doesn't carry the cream yet which is regular coconut milk that I addvanilla extract to it.) Cheap celestial teas can't be beat. I like Morning Thunder, Echinacea complete care, am detox, sleepy time extra, and then they have some season stuff. Sometimes I drink teas for the flavor but I also pick them out for their benefit. I also like the Tazo brand, andTraditional Medicials. Both of thoese are sold at heath food stores and regular grocery.
Can't wait to make the hummus. Yummy!
What will she have for us tomorrow...
Those chocolate snowballs look amaaaazing. I must make them. Soon. Maybe before work!
I love tea, and my favorite right now is an Almond Rooibus. I really like Rooibus actually, more than any other variety. I also prefer loose teas :)
Oh wow Averie! You have outdone yourself...again! Those snow balls looks so perfect and delicious. I can't wait to make them for the holidays :)
OMG they look amazing!! I love coconut!
Wow you have alot of peanutbutter!!! Love it and love all your amazing creations! Thanks for the comments on my blog!
mmmmmm!! Just like others I have a list of your creations that I want to make, but I think this one might go to the top! They just look so yummy!
Yummy frozen macaroons, a.k.a. snowballs. When you take them out of the freezer, you should cover them in more coconut "snow." Then, they'd really look like snowballs. Or, make a vanilla version.
I actually like making "cake" snowballs, like the Hostess treat. I should post them the next time I make them.
As for tea, I've been drinking Trader Joe's Ruby Red Chai, but I want to try Zhena's two holiday flavors I saw in my newest issue of VegNews. I have my eye on the Gingerbread Chai.
Those balls look mighty delicious! Ha! :D
I want your PB2 stash!
Question: Did you use sweetened flaked coconut or unsweetened?
I too was a coffee hound, but haven't had any in nearly two months! I weaned myself off with tea-- I started with Tazo Awake tea (a strong, high caffeine black tea) and after a while switched to loose leaf Hojicha tea. It's very earthy and energizing in a clean, un-jittery way (unlike coffee, which gave me the shakes!).
Starting with the black tea then switching to a lower caffeine variety really helps prevent withdrawal headaches.
Those snowballs look wonderful! I love that there are no nuts in the recipe, and therefore no need for the food processor to come out. Sometimes I am lazy and would love to be able to mix up a treat like this by hand. Thanks for the recipe, I will be trying it very soon :)
Averie, your but butter stash is OOC (out of control) lol. LOVE IT. So im not a HUGE coconut fan.. do you think something else could be substituted in place of it for your lovely snow balls???? Im thinking perhaps some rice crispies or something??
I LOVE LOVE LOVE tea.. I drink about 3 cups of green everyday.. I prefer to just get the dry tea and seep my own, but equal exchange (yaa fair trade) has a really awesome bagged organic green!
Hey Averie, great looking blog. I just posted a link to your Snowballs recipe:

I have heard of those youbars...what did you think of them? I have heard mixed things abotu them but always wanted to try them!
you have so much nutbutter it looks delicious all lined up like that! I cannot seem to get my hands on barney butter! they are not in my whole foods and I dont feel like spending 8 dollars for shipping! Guess I will have to wait till they get here!!
I just found your site thanks to Eric Marcus' website. I'm so happy to find this blog! There are so many wonderful looking recipes I am looking forward to trying. I am a vegetarian, contemplating a switch to vegan. I love veggies & yoga too & am training for my first marathon. You are an inspiration! I definitely need that some days!! Thank you so much for sharing!
Amy
That snowball looks so good! I think I might try making it this weekend with my daughter! She loves anything chocolate and it sure would be nice if it had some hidden healthy benefits to it ;)

eekk averie,I am finally back home, where my parents have a vitamix, food processor and all my other fave things, and I am going to town to make all your recipes. I am so excited.:)
Yum! I was just telling Ingrid (Raw Epicurian) that I was out of cacao powder and cacao nibs and I needed to make an emergency trip to the co-op. Now I really do!!
Bars, bars, lots of bars! I'm working on it ; )
Have an awesome day!
Nicole
stop that recipe now. I would haev seriously sat down on the couch with the tupperware container, a spoon (scratch that...a pitchfork) and devoured that ENTIRE container. I'm hungry now.
Those would probably be very dangerous to have in the house. I'd probably eat them all :P
I love the idea of using an ice cream scoop. I need all the portion control help that I can get when it comes to sweets :)
Oh, more raw food treats to make!
AHAHAHA oh there is no turning back now - you are a true food blogger with a nut butter stash like that. ;)
Re: tea, since I know you're a TJ's lover, I just picked up their decaf green Candy Cane Tea and it's AWESOME (and $1.99!). Otherwise I am primarily devoted to loose green teas because I lived in China and Japan for a while and I'm a snob like that. Yogi teas are also good for bagged though, and I drink a mug of peppermint tea (Celestial Seasonings) every night after dinner.
you need to make a cookbook, missy! you have too much goodness coming out of this blog, i can't keep up!
ps. would you believe i've NEVER had a raw baked good? blasphemy, i know!
oh my goodness a_ the cocoa balls look amazing b_peanut butter nuts! I have to try PB2. c_ those bars look yummy!
btw what are the red and green specs in the pic?
I used to eat those hostess marshmellow snow balls like it was my JOB when I was a youngin' -- so I really appreciate this recipe. Sweet sweet nostalgia!
Just catching up now but the hummus sounds fab! I wonder if it'll work in my magic bullet?! hmmmmmm.. I may have to buy a vitamix just so I can make everything you make because I kind of want to be youuuu.
You have to give me the dish on the Better N' PB.. (obvs not as a replacement to regular PB.. nothing beats the real shizz) but have heard good and bad things. I am so curious and have been dying to try it. May have to take the plunge and order some - but I need to know from my food guru.. what are your thoughts?
OK these snowballs look seriously dangerous - especially because I have all the makings for this dessert in my kitchen as I type. I love how simple it is - although I think I'd be sneaking in a couple tbsp of almond butter just because I can't resist the AB!
Wow...you have a big stock of nut butters! Can I move in? :) You're at it with your creations again - those snowballs look awesome and I'm curious about that hummus! I'm sorry I'm behind on posts...please forgive me..
Wow, you have so many different kinds of nut butters! I am going to have to check some of those out for my smoothie creations! :)
Those coconut chocolate balls look amazing!
Chocolate and coconut.... ummm... doesn't get much better than that! They are two of my favorite things to eat!!!! Seriously you make yoga look so easy... though I feel each day that I am doing it I am getting stronger. It really is helping me and the sis with our depression. Yeah!!
Lovin' the yoga pose, snowballs, and extensive nut butter stash :)
I actually made those snowballs this morining based on a recipe from another raw vegan I saw. Same thing, but she called it something different.
I like youbars, A LOT
Those snowballs are KILLING me! They kind of remind me of those no bake cookies (you're a Midwest girl, you have to know what I'm talking about) but 10x better.
Mmmm Barney Butter!! I love that stuff - the crunchy is amazing! Hope you had a wonderful Wednesday :)
can we have a snowball fight?? lol, i need to make those when i find my way back to my kitchen :) and that banana bread? oh my, too delicious to be behind a computer screen!!
mmm... the snowballs look great! Definitely going to have to try this recipe!
okay, i made these this morning thinking they'd be a great afternoon snack for me and the kid - um, yea, there is NO way these babies are making it past lunch!! LOVE LOVE them. my fave raw dessert yet i do believe;) Thanks for Sharing, once again!!
Oh wow, I just discovered your blog yesterday, amazing stuff!
I tried out these snowballs today and my parents gobbled them down with my help in no time. I added some oats and rolled mine in coconut after to give them that snowy effect.
You're incredibly creative and I'm loving your recipes. Thank you so much for sharing and inspiring vegans.
get out! i knew about the make your own granolas, but i had no idea there were bars too!
I just bought some cocoa today so I will definitely have to try this recipe!
YUM YUM YUM!! Those little babies look fantastic!
Thanks for all of your fun recipes! I'm adding you to my blog list!! :o)
Oooh Averie! These chocolate coconut snowballs are *awesome*. I used 1/2 cocoa powder and 1/2 carob powder, and also used a bit of coconut butter along with the oil. Divine! Thank you so much for your simple, yummy and inspiring creations. Your blog is always a go-to when I'm craving something. Inevitably, you've got something that I want to make right then and there!
I just made up a batch of the chocolate coconut snowballs and I can't wait until they're done freezing!
