Right in the driver's line of sight as you're looking out the windshield. Nice.
Not sure what I'm going to do yet if I will file a claim with my insurance company or just eat it and pay for it out of pocket. Sigh. Not cool. Karma's a bee-otch but not sure why the Universe threw a rock at me today, literally and figuratively. Hmmmm. Maybe I shouldn't look for deeper meaning. Maybe a rock is just a rock. Do you ever feel that some sort of karma hit you that you totally didn't deserve? What was the situation?
Well on lighter matters, I am so glad you all enjoyed the Raw Vegan Dark Chocolate Cherry Balls from yesterday!
Yes, chocolate and cherries are a pretty failsafe flavor combo. So I hope you get your Balls On and make them! (Ball Jokes are here)
And thank you for all the Great Cell Phone Insights! Verizon vs. AT &T, Blackberry vs. iPhone and thank for telling me about all the new phones that I didn't even know where coming out or that have just come out. Awesome info, thanks gang!
So after I was hit with flying rocks, I came home with all my groceries.
Got my Greenery On: Organic Greens, Broccoli, and Kale. How I love thee 'o kale
And my Reds: Bell Peppers and Tomatoes
And Various Fruit: Apples, Bananas, Oranges, and Grapefruit
And a stash of Bars, and most of them were on sale for a $1 buck each. Cool!
I am most looking forward to this one. Luna Protein Chocolate Peanut Butter.
because of the 12g of Protein!
And decent calorie count. Unless you're competing in an Ironman, I really think snack-sized bars should clock in around 200 calories, not 300-350+. But that's me. Your mileage may vary,
And I'm also looking forward to the Luna because Evan said that the Luna Protein Cookie Dough is his fave bar of all time and that's a big statement for this Bar Reviewer!
What is your favorite bar of all time? I try to keep dairy, gluten, and soy out of my life but most bars you find at the regular grocery store have at least one of those ingredients. Sigh. What's your fave bar? Or what are your top few choices? Why?
So after lots of veggie washing & choppin', and the laundry going, I got the mail sorted. And oh yeah, all this while taking care of Skylar, not quite 3 years old, so it's not like I can turn my back on her for more than 27 seconds.
In the mail today, I received a sampling of Arbonne products from reader Gina. Here's her info.
I am really excited to try the Vegan, Gluten-Free, Ready-to-Drink Protein Drinks.
20g of Protein and 190 Calories per drink. Wow!!!
Thanks, Gina for the goodies, including the trial sizes of Arbonne's beauty products.
And remember the Blogger Meetup with Bekah of Beek Eats and Madeline from Greens and Jeans that I had mentioned over the weekend, but forgot my camera? Well, thanks to Bekah
we're in business with some photos, courtesy of Miss Bekah!
Left to Right in All 3 Pics: Madeline, Me, Bekah
Last night's dinner was raw kale, brock, cauli, tomatoes, and cukes.
With Homemade Vegan Slaw Dressing. Sweet, tangy, perfect.
I eat a version of this salad pretty much daily. I am a creature of habit when it comes to this one!
And of course, a few Raw Vegan Dark Chocolate Cherry Balls for dessert!
Yoga Today is Urdhva Mukha Paschimottanasana
As I asked in the body of the post, Do you ever feel that some sort of karma hit you that you totally didn't deserve or didn't see coming? Like flying rocks! haha! What was the situation? In general, I believe in karma and that people do get what they deserve, but there are times and people, who for whatever reason, do get a string of back luck, bad experience, and just bad things seem to plague them.
On the flip side; however, I also believe that in life we create our own "luck" by the prior choices we've made and foundations we've laid. "Lucky" = Where Experience and Preparation MEET The Right Opportunity. For example, if someone lives in a big beautiful house, sure, they may have gotten lucky and won the lottery to get that house, but chances are, they worked hard, made appropriate choices, and created their own "luck" which landed them in their casa grande. Of course, there are tons of exceptions to all of this!
In general though I do believe in karma, but I also believe in hard work, determination, and creating your own "luck". What's your take on all of this? What do you believe? Why do some people seem to "have it all" and others just can never seem to get things together?
And if you don't feel like talking about karma, what's your fave bar?
Stay Tuned For A Ball-Worthy Post. Based on reader's requests, I am going to consolidate my balls. All my ball recipes, I mean...

That is huge crack!! I would be so ticked. I am a big believer in karma, but I don't necessarily BLAME things on karma, you know?? I also like to do nice things for people just because - not because of karma. :)
Interesting about karma..really.
I have always said " i must have been really bad in a former life...cause this life is not going so good"....
oh well :)
Have a nice night.
Your meetup looks fun.
I have been searching for that Luna bar everywhere! You and your daughter are SO cute!
Am I the only immature person thinking that it is hilarious to say, "That is a huge crack?" Yes, yes I am.
Oh my stars. You must tell me how that cookie dough bar is. You know how I love the Balance Cookie Dough. It is a huge source of shame for me :)
Oh, and I was wondering...how tall are you? You look quite tall in that blogger meetup photo!
Hi Averie! I wanted to come out of lurking to let you know that if you knew which company was driving the truck, give them a call about the rock. Most of the time they will handle the repair themselves. (that's how the trucking company I worked for did it anyways!)
I literally just had a crack in my windshield repaired on Friday! Stupid az roads! Apparantely everyone here has glass insurance... I paid the $150 to have it fixed out of pocket
sometimes a rock is just a rock...HOWEVER I do believe in Karma and energy out = energy IN. Maybe what we put out wasn't mean or negative per se but simply...the same wave length...ie: one very draining emotional day (like today for me) and than a month later (or week or what not) my toddler drops his toy on my nose!
did I deserve that?? not in THAT sense but it was just the return HIT
it's sorta "out there" but it always makes me think. I LOVE what you said about making opportunities and laying groundwork (which I have NOT done for myself in ages but am sticking my neck outside my comfort zone and doing more of lately) but I think you are so right.
sorry you got a rock in your face today. that stinks. This morning I had my car horn honk ALL THE WAY TO WORK. I am posting about it later.
So I always try and put out GOOD VIBES becasue I don't want murphy's law in my face!
happy to hear you got a great yoga class in. I need one today! Are you doing your Pilates tonight?
Have a great rest of your Monday Chickie!
MUAH
oh, I don't have a fav bar but I do like a larabar when it's on sale. LEMON LEMON LEMON and coconut.
xo
Oh poo :( Sorry about your crack(in the windshield). I do believe in Karma. After being ran over by a car and all that I went through when I was younger I figured I deserved to not have bad luck. I lost my job last year and that wasn't fun.
Great post! I'm so happy I found your bog, it's so inspirational. I can't believe you are able to accomplish so much in a day and still care for your daughter. Impressive, I can only hope to someday multi-task as well as you. Can't wait to read more!
Ugh! Sweetie, sometimes a rock IS just a rock. Don't let it get you down. =)
We've gone through l-o-n-g periods of hardship. But, even those were sprinkled with blessings that outweighed the pain in the end.
Sending you sunshine and flowers. =)
You dont have bad karma, it is called "welcome to AZ". There is a reason why when you get car insurance here, they suggest the full glass coverage....we have replaced, ummm about 6-7 windshields in the few years we have been here. Still is not fun, but just a normal thing here...
I found your blog a few days ago and I am really enjoying it. Can you also include the translation to the yoga poses? It would be helpful in learning the sanskrit names.
I just started following your blog but I've definitely already added you to my google reader! You are so positive and you just glow. And your yoga skills are an amazing inspiration!
Just thought I'd say 'hi' as a new reader :)
ahh so sorry about your windshield!! that stinks...I was just reading osmeone's blog and they talked about how some one hit their car and then drove off! a classic hit and run and I felt so bad! I can't believe people would do that!! I do believe in karma sometimes but dont blame things on it if that makes sense. SOmetimes things happen and I'll say WELP KARMA's A BI*TCH! haha
what a fun blogger meet up you all look so prett!y!!
any good recommendations for a yoga DVDs??
Sorry to hear about the windshield Averie!! What a bummer. Im mixed on karma.. I believe in chance and fortitude for sure!
My fav bar?? HMM right now, Envirokids gluten free peanut butter crispy! (yes Im 5).
PS.. you Madeline and Beek look sooo gorg! What a fun meet up :)
I def. believe in Karma (sorry about the rock hitting your windshield!) Sometimes it may seem like bad luck always happens to good people...but I think they're also missing seeing the good in things :)
My favorite (tasting) bars would have to be those Cliff Z Bars!
Oh NO! Sorry about that windshield crack...that's no good :-(
Looks like you got some great bars to try! I'm excited to hear your thoughts on them!
that is an ENORMOUS crack! i would have flipped a huge poo if you know what i mean. totally file a claim! just think of all the sweet yogi clothes you could buy with the cost of repairing it yourself :)
i definitely believe in karma and i feel like when people do terrible things to me that theres no point in trying to do something back because someday karma will come and bit them where the sun don't shine.
I am definitely a believer in karma! Though I do believe that hard work will take you where you need to be. But as far as karma goes, what comes around goes around - if you're nice to someone, hold the door open for someone, even simple stuff like that, then it will come back around to you. You never know when the universe will throw you some good karma just when you need it.
Sorry about your windshield though! I'm sure that was sheer bad luck. :( Luckily it wasn't anything bigger, or didn't come pelting through your windshield...I don't know if that can really happen but whenever I travel behind trucks I always think about that and try to go around them.
I have a lot of favorite bars, but don't eat any that have dairy in them. Soy maybe, so long as it isn't soy protein isolate since that's too processed for me. Larabars and Pure bars are some of my favorites, as are BoraBora bars. Prana bars are pretty good (Gena at Choosing Raw just did a review on them). Luna cookies are winners too. And Clif Nectar, Amazing Grass Superfood Bars, among many many others. Wow, I could go on and on. I love bars. :) I always try to pick some new ones up when I travel and am in new grocery stores.
Great bathroom pic of you and Skylar! You both look gorgeous! :)
Hope you have a great week!
I think you get what you deserve, too, but sometimes things just happen also. Especially with little things, I have to think it was just the earth "happening". And really, to the earth, a rock flying is just "happening". It doesn't need to pay for repair or even know what that costs ;-)
I'm excited to hear how the chocolate PB one is! I almost picked that and the chocolate cherry up but decided to wait until I'm back on campus and will need bars more often rather than want.
Guess what?! I tried your date/nut balls... Not the exact recipe but the idea... YUM! Why didn't I make these sooner!!
Sorry about the windshield... karma is going to get that truck ;)
Big hugs,
Jess
Karma- I think that I see enough injustice in the world to wonder if there is really enough karma. Bad things happening to good people, etc- you wonder- why? But I suppose that we can only ever do our best, and life will take it's course anyway.
Yes, the Big Crack subject had me chuckling a bit.
Very excited to hear about those two Luna bars. I used to work for a doctor (read: Intelligent man??) who wouldn't eat Luna bars because it said on the package that they are "for women". bahahah!
I LOVE LOVE heart heart KIND bars- because they are basically nuts held together by sugar. What's not to love?
Cute photo of you, Madeline and Beeks (in this post? or another??- cute either way!)
D
Look at the bright side, at least the rock didn't cause an accident or cause you to get injured. Something similar happened to me once, and when I got over my anger at the damaged windshield, I was just happy to be safe and unharmed. :)
On another note, I am so upset those new Luna protein bars aren't vegan. They look awesome!
I have never heard of luna protein bars! I can't wait to hear about them!
Aww sorry about the windshield! It's kinda funny with the talk about karma... our oven just broke today. I wonder if one of us did anything? ;) That luna bar sounds awesome!
What a bummer about the window! I do really believe in Karma- at least to some extent. I feel like there just has to be.. I always tip extremely well- because I live off them myself, and figure thats it's the good karma thing to do..
I LOVE the peppermint Luna bars.. I would sometimes buy them by the box..
I'm not really a fan of karma, but your point of view is pretty interesting!!
You're daughter is so precious!!
Are you wearing heels, or are you just naturally taaaall?! You lucky!
I'm not a big fan of bars...I'd rather eat a sandwich. And as for karma, well, I believe in a God, and that He takes care of all justice.
Hmm, my fave bar? That would be Cheers, where everybody knows your name, of course. KIDDING! I guess I'm a Lara girl. The cinnamon flavor is great.
So sorry to hear about your windshield! That bites big time. As for karma, I dunno. All I know is we can only try to be the best versions of ourselves possible, and if that affects a past/future life, well, all the more reason to make the effort in the first place.
My favorite bar? Probably the lemon larabar. Mmm! I love all larabars though!!
Loving all the green in this post-but it's in every post! Haha :)
Fabulous yoga pose!
<3 jess
xoxo
I like the Bora Bora bars...a little higher in fat and expensive, but the ingredient list is usually short and mostly organic, without a bunch of processed stuff!
I was just thinking of karma today. Someone I know was feeling down about some stuff that happened to her, but she's hurt me so I thought "maybe it's karma." course I never said it to her. then i was thinking if some of my pain is due to karma, but i've already resolved that it's not.
i don't really do many bars because a lot DO have gluten but i like vega bars ok and really like lara bars. but i think homemade things like raw cookie balls are better. i really only do bars when i travel or i am in a rish because it gets expensive.
hope your karma is better tomorrow.
im a FIRM believer that everything happens for a reason! God has a plan for everything-and also makes good out of anything!!!
gota let me know how those bars are! DYING to find them!
AH. i just read your meetup deets on beek's blog! so fun. you are SO SO gorgeous. sorry about the crack :( wow, i have to find that luna. i like the looks of that, i will keep my eye out. thanks for the tip. i ad no idea those existed! my fave bar is probably nuts & cranberry luna. i also like larabars but i am a pansy and am afraid of the calories/fat/lack of protein. yeah, i'm an asshole. ha. cute cute photos of you and your babe! i for sure believe in karma. and i love you.
Aren't bloggy meet ups just the best??? I had 2 last week and I am hoping for some more in the near future. I am coming to your country on Friday, but I wish it was on your side of the land! Great pick ups on the grocery shop too. I wanted to try Kale when I was in Oz recently but totally ran out of time!!!
im sorry about your car! that is so irritating. the blogger meet up looks like a lot of funa nd you have some great products in this post :) i love the cookie dough luna protein bar- had it for the first time the other day! it hink my favorite bar might be the luna chocolate peppermint stick bar... soo good!
& as far as karma- i'm with you..i am not 100% sure what i believe but i think it is definitely a combination thing.
xoxo
shelley
I've never heard of the new Luna Bars, but I usually skip that section in the grocery store. those others are at TJ's for a buck each too. I stock up on them whenever I make the trip!
Great post girl!!! This is right up my alley ;)
I believe we create our own lives everyday all day! The universe is always giving us what we put out there. With the crack....well I look at situations at that like maybe if that didn't happen something worse would have. This could be a blessing and you don't know it yet ;)
I love that you believe in karma and how energy works!
You rock love!
XXOO
I totally believe in Karma. I see it working every day.
Too bad about the windshield. Most glass companies however, will waive your deductible and take whatever the insurance company will pay for the repair. Usually a windshield replacement is covered by a different deductible on your insurance. At least that has been my experience in the past.
My current favorite bar is a new one by Oskri. Chocolate covered with almonds, amaranth and buckwheat. Yummmmmm.
That is one crazy windshield crack! Damn! I say sometimes a rock is a rock is a rock, because I can't see how you could possibly have an ounce of bad karma!! Way too sweet for a vindictive rock ;)
Glad you had a nice run and yoga session, though - that ALWAYS helps :)
I'd have to say my favorite bar currently is a tie between my forever favorite apple pie Lara Bar and the Clif Trail Mix Mojo.
Mmm those bars look TASTY. :)
I was looking for them on Amazon but they don't hae any..it's wheat & gluten free but has a lot of soy and the rice sugar is high on the list of ingredients, though. :(
Also, please tell me what you thought of the protein shakes (in a blog I guess since my site isn't up yet)...I'm very curious. :) Are they meal -replacers (which I'm not so much in favor of) or just yummy drinks? I've never really been a protein shake person but they look interesting!
So sorry about your windshield! We believe also that everything happens for a reason! Could be to stop or slow down...thank goodness the windshield was there.
If I ask you a question and the very first thing that pops into your head is the answer...so, why did the rock hit your vehicle...without thinking about it...what is your answer? Does that make sense?
Hugs and Be safe!
OK, I could be here forever, but I gotta wake the kids for school.
Fave Bar: (though I don't eat 'em unless i'm on the slopes) Luna Chocolate Peppermint.....Oh my YUM!
Karma: I am an absolute believer. Mindful, graceful behavior will set us free. Even a small smile given or received can alter our daily outlook. When I am having a bad moment I try my hardest to eek out a smile.
Luck: Yes, I believe also that hard work creates great energy and better Luck!
Avocado Cocoa Mousse: Veeerry interesting. I love when you share the vegan alternatives to my recipes. Very insightful, informative and they sound delicious!
Also: this link was sent to me.. The Skinny Bitch gals are working on a new Vegan cookbook. Entries need to be submitted by Jan 15th. You would have loads of awesome content for this. Besides with all your hard work I want to see you earning loads of $$$$ and becoming famous!!
http://www.healthybitchdaily.com/contest_form.html
xxoo gotta wake the munchkins!!
Have a wonderful day :)
I do believe in karma and think the better energy I put out there, the better. But then again, really bad things happen and you really can't find a "reason" why it happened. I guess in the end what matters is our attitude (and that's often really all we can control). So if I have a positive attitude, I give better energy, which is better for me and those around me... And I really try with the positive attitude, but it can be hard at times...
Can't wait to see all your balls! :)
I'm so jealous of that luna protein bar! You know me and my protein... and I can't seem to find them in stores!
You have been busy. My day was crazy, too, but fun. Hayden got to go to Trader Joe's, Whole Foods and the mall.
As for bars, I'm not a big fan of any of them, except for the fact that I can carry them in my purse for emergencies. Usually, I have a Raw Food Bar on hand. I like the green ones.
That's scary!! Glad that nothing happened to you though.
Hmm.. karma. You know, when I'm in a pissed off mood and something bad happens I always blame it on karma and don't even consider that it could have happened because I was inattentive. So I always think "oh that bad karma!!" but I'm glad to say that nothing too horrible has happened to me so far (knock on wood).
Love the t-shirt by the way.
I couldn't get my hands on green kale this weekend other than the purple kale.. I use green for juicing.. anyways... I miss it .
I have heard of arbonne a girl at work sells it and she was for a while trying to get me buy the figure 8 stuff from her... I look forward to your reivew as what you think.
Love you blogs so much Averie! I hope you're able to get your crack fixed without too much drama...gosh that sounds funny!
Great post - great photos, great blog! I love it. I just finished eating my kale chips (averie style of course) while getting caught up on your posts.
I'm waaaaay behind on my ball makin', must work on that!
Not sure if I believe in karma as such, but I do believe in treating others as you would want to be treated, and I believe in the concept of justice... Wow, they are some loaded questions you've asked Averie, and they're getting this tired brain thinking!
Fave snack bars... I LOVE larabars but they've stopped selling them over here in the UK. Gutted. I wrote to them and they said they weren't sure if they were ever going to be sold over here again. I think we need to move to the US... not just for larabars... for other reasons too... :)
P.S. sorry to here about your car, stupid rock!
Oh no!! im so sorry about your windsheild girl. That is not fun. Ugh. Its so scary sometimes driving next to those semis or trucks loaded down with all kinds of stuff. Hopefully it wont be too bad of a fix. Will you just have to replace the whole windsheild? Dealing with insurance companies can be so horrible. Last year some guy ran a stop sign and t boned me, totally smashed my car. It took like 3 months and hours on the phone to insurance companies to deal with it. I wish they would somehow make this easier or at least less time consuming. Aahh well...I hope you have a better day though~!
Looks like a really successful shopping trip! Im curious about those bars! I tend to eat bars on occasion Mainly Larabars and GoneRaw bars. Some of them ive noticed have really high calorie counts and tons of sugar so im really careful with them. But the ones around 200 cals are great and I usually pair them with an apple of something for a quick lunch on the go!
Love the bloggie meet up pics too! you all look gorgeous!!
I love your topic about karma. Im such a believer in it big time. I think you can definitely make your path based on the choices you make in your lifetime but I think every so often karma is there to keep us in check=) Life would be boring with out a few bumps in the road and we learn and grow by these experiences as well.
Well sweetie I hope you have a better day and sorry again about your windshield! xoxoxo!!
Acrobatics!? You amaze. The very idea of all that blood rushing to my head just doesn't work. I'll stick to the more grounded yoga poses for now :)
Horrible about the windshield, but glad everything else was marvelous.
I sure hope karma works, because I'm a believer! It keeps me from dwelling on things when people do things that aren't very nice.
Oh, undeserved karma? Like having to get my car towed twice in one week? Or anything that ever happens to my car? Because it is cursed?
:-(
First time they thought it was a hose that had come loose leading to the fuel injector. I just received a call from the mechanic saying that it is the camshaft which connects to the timing belt, the fuel injector, and the whole internal computer. I'd love to say this is the worst of the car problems I've had in my 4.5 years of owning it. But it's not even close..
So I TOTALLY feel ya on the windshield crack. That is a huge bummer!!! I hope you can get it fixed soon, and for a reasonable price :-( xoxo
Hope you love those bars! I'm with you: I tend to prefer minimally processed bars, but sometimes I need something quick (and less expensive) in a pinch.
I also believe that we create our own luck, happiness, and sense of well-being.
Your hair looks lovely, by the way :-)
Augh! That sucks about the rock!!! I remember a few years ago my dad got a crack in his windshield and didn't want to pay for it to get fixed. It was just a small nick and he said he'd wait around until it bugged him too much. Well, he waited like 6 months, then finally one day it freezed REALLY bad overnight and on the way into work/school, it suddenly cracked all the way across the windshield. We (my dad, brothers, and I) were all totally freaked out and thought it was going to shatter in on us! Needless to say, he went in that afternoon to have it replaced. ;)
xxoo
Heather
BOO on the windshield crack!! On the bright side, at least it didn't shatter :) I've had two driving incidents lately (backed into another car and got pulled over for speeding - all within a couple weeks) and that was stressful!! I kept questioning why it was happening, but I was stressed to begin with. The accidents helped me step back and say "okay Susan, you have got to calm down and regroup or sh*t's gonna get a lot worse."
On the flip side, I totally got lucky with my new job!! Kinda. Had I never left my old job, and started working at Starbucks, my new boss never would have spotted me at the Bucks and offered me my current job (which I so far love).
Everything totally happens for a reason. It's so weird to look back and see the series of events and choices that brought us to where we are today.
Ugh, I rambled. Which is a good sign ;) Love your post as always Averie!!
I am a firm believer in karma and attribute anything negative that happens in my life to something I must of done. Sometimes I allow this mindset to consume me - but it really keeps me in check and holds me accountable for my actions. I just try to life life in accordance to the golden rule.. do unto others as you would have others do unto you. It's worked for me thus far!
those drinks sound wonderful. I have been considering upping my protein intake as of late. I want me some Averie arms ;)
<3 <3 <3
i adore acro-yoga!!
and those new luna bars looks good-i like that they have added protein, but i'm not a fan of whey protein isolate :(
I think karma is pretty simple. It's basically in every single religion (called something or another) and its also common sense! You live your life fully, spreading good all around, and good things will bless you! (BUT, a rock is also just a rock. This definitely was the case here.)
So I'm a vain bee-otch, and I read through all the comments, haha and I loved what Janetha said about being a pansy about the calories. I like the cliff zbars because they're lowww on the cal range, but also have a pretty good looking ingredient list compared to think thin, luna, big cliffs, etc. Pretty much can't get any protein in a bar without it being HIGH in sugar or soy protein (not a fan) so if I'm gonna have a bar its gonna be for a small snack, not meal replacement.
:)yayy cute pics.:)
As far as the crack goes, it will probably cost you the same with or without insurance. The last time I had mine done it was around $200 or so which is kind of the pits when you don't have $200 lying around, ugh!
I am off to OB People's on Friday and I am SO getting dried cherries for the cherry balls! Oh, and kale of course : ) I'm also going to make Kristen's Onion Bread, ooh la la.....
I can't say I believe in karma but I do believe what goes around comes around eventually! And Pure bars are my fave right now. You know what I'm craving that is kind of like a bar? Gopal's Power Wraps. The BBQ one is SOOOO good! Yet another OBP list item : )
Take care of you,
Nicole
love the (next) compiled BALLS post!! definitely will be returning to that for some advice!!
oh no! a crack!!! im sorry mama!!!
love the mirror pics with you and skylar!!!
HURRAY FOR BLOGGER MEET UPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so much fun!!!
and that yoga pose is one of my favs from Pilates!!!
HUGES MISS AVERIE!!! XOXOXOXO
